TRAINING CLASSES

Designed for the benefit of both the owner and the dog, ranging in size from 4-8 handler/dog teams, classes meet for about an hour once a week. Not only are we covering theories and techniques of training, but the class environment is a wonderful opportunity to socialize your dog! Because of this, we ask all clients to provide proof of up to date Rabies and DHLPP combination vaccines (a Bordatella vaccine is recommended, but not required). Our classes are designed to be effective and enjoyable for owner and dog alike! Please come to each class prepared with treats, 6 foot leather or nylon leash, buckle collar, bait apron and clicker (bait aprons and clickers will be provided for each team on the first night of class). Classes run year round, please contact Lynsey today for more information, start dates, and to sign up!

I. Private Training

Personal Tailored Private Lessons:

Taught at the convenience of your schedule, these lessons can be taught in the comfort of your own home, or another location (a nearby park for example), or our training facility. These lessons are completely customizable and topics can include anything such as walking nicely on a leash, coming when called, basic obedience (sit, down, stay, etc.), advanced obedience (heeling, off leash work, etc.), tricks, and manners. These lessons can also be tailored to address other topics such as behavioral modification of pushy, fearful/shy, or even aggressive dogs. Lessons last 45 minutes to an hour.

Manners Private Lessons Package:

Is your canine companion a bit rude or perhaps a bit rough around the edges? Our basic manners program is a two lesson set that is designed to devise a program to fit your lifestyle that will transform your pup from a rowdy rover to a courteous canine. Using the methods of operant conditioning we will cover concepts such as no jumping, mouthing, mounting, digging, barking, chewing as well as other undesirable behaviors. The first lesson, lasting from an hour to 90 minutes covers the ins and outs of operant conditioning as well as an introduction to the clicker and its use in training. Your questions will be answered and a program will be designed for you to follow to smoothly incorporate training into your daily life. We recommend that the second lesson (which lasts 45 minutes to an hour) be scheduled anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks following the first. It will follow up and answer any questions to arise as you work independently with your dog as well as continue and even set the stage for basic obedience.

Basic Obedience Private Lesson Packages:

In a total of 4 lessons (each lesson lasting 45 minutes to an hour), taught in the comfort of your home or our training facility, we will cover the concepts of operant conditioning and dog training with the use of a clicker. Concepts such as walking nicely on a leash and coming when called as well as the commands sit, down, stay and heel will be covered in this course. Although the scheduling of lessons is up to you, we recommend no more than a week between lessons.

Advanced Obedience Private Lesson Package:

In a total of 4 lessons (each lasting 45 minutes to an hour), we will build upon what the dog has learned of basic obedience. Topics include heeling with attention, as well as transitioning to off leash exercises. Though we can train in your home, both you and the dog can benefit from working these lessons at local parks as well. Greater distractions are added to the curriculum and interested participants can also be prepared and tested for the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen certification at no additional charge.

Puppy Primer:

Getting a new puppy? Our Puppy Primer is designed with the first time (or maybe just rusty) puppy owner in mind. This package includes a total of 3 sessions (each lasting 45 minutes to an hour) in the comfort of your own home with the convenience of your schedule. In the first lesson, ideally before the pup comes home, we will cover the basics of puppy care and management including topics such as potty training, puppy proofing, and the fundamentals of canine learning and communication with the theories of operant conditioning. Once the pup comes home, the second session will cover topic such as early socialization, basic manners and conditioning the clicker. Finally, the third session will cover the beginnings of basic obedience, walking nicely on a leash, coming when called and a few basic commands such as sit, down and stay.

Lodge and Learn:

Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed by your overzealous canine? Too busy to be able to set and maintain a training program? Perhaps you’re going out of town and would like us to work with your pup while you’re away. Training is done Monday through Friday and covers everything from manners to advanced obedience. Training is done in our home and, in order to ensure optimum training time and personalization for your pet we only take one Lodging client at a time, be sure to call in advance and set yours up in advance! Call today for pricing and more details! Discounts available for multiple dog households.

II. Obedience

Progressing Through Sessions

At the end of each hour session, there will be a brief evaluation where handler/dog teams will display their understanding of the skills taught in each session. Passing the session exam is required to count that session as a prerequisite for another session. Once passed however, a session can be repeated as many times as the handler wishes.

Graduation

After Sections E and I, if handler/dog teams have passed each prior session, they will be awarded a Beginner or Advanced Obedience Program Graduation Certificate.

Testing

The obedience program is designed to support both the AKC CGC as well as the APDT C.L.A.S.S. program, handler/dog teams are encouraged to attend and participate in a CKC or C.L.A.S.S. Test any time they are offered (approximately every 6 weeks).
